Verisign is excited to announce that we made the Online Trust Alliance’s (OTA) 2015 Honor Roll for showing a commitment to best practices in security, privacy and consumer protection. This is the third consecutive year that Verisign has received this honor.
The OTA is a nonprofit organization that works collaboratively with industry leaders to enhance online trust, innovation and market vitality. This year, the Online Trust Audit analysis focused on three categories: Domain, Brand & Consumer Protection; Site, Server & Infrastructure Security; and Data Protection, Privacy & Transparency. There were two dozen criteria to qualify, including a company’s domain name system (DNS), server infrastructure, email and privacy policies, and more than 900 websites, 500 million emails and 100,000 webpages were evaluated.
New criteria was added to the 2015 Audit methodology, which comprised of the recognition for use of the Opportunistic Transport Layer Security (TLS) cryptographic protocol, updated SSL protocols, and use of anti-botnet technologies, as well as an examination of the top 50 Internet of Things (IoT) vendors. In addition, increased weighting was placed on the implementation of Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance (DMARC) policies.
